He had commitment issues. She had a return flight.
Santiago, Chile · 2018
A first date in February that somehow turned into several. Work trips that were definitely just work trips. A hike up Manquehue that was officially their last — a sensible goodbye before sensibly going their separate ways. Reader, neither of them went their separate way.
Just friends. (They were not friends.)
California & Spain · 9,351 km apart
Mati moved to California. Caro moved to Spain. Nine hours apart, an ocean between them, and apparently all the time in the world to text each other. What looked like the end turned out to be the plot twist. Turns out you cannot friend-zone someone across two continents forever.
Fine. Let's do this.
Spain · The official beginning
Someone had to make a decision. Mati packed up California, moved to Spain, and they got a flat together. They argued about where to put the sofa. They figured out whose turn it was to cook. They built, without entirely meaning to, an actual life. It was wonderful. The sofa placement was eventually resolved.
Moved to London. Bought a plant. Got married.
London · Grey but golden
The plan was London for a year or two. They arrived with two suitcases and one enormous plant that had absolutely no business surviving the move. It survived. They moved flats, missed the sun, found their people, and one perfectly ordinary Tuesday — got married. Then had a very good lunch. Very them.
TBD — but it's going to be good.
